Healthy Snack: Peanut Butter
Posted: Jul 04 2014
This is great news for anyone with a sweet tooth, peanut butter is good for athletes!
How has this great news come about, I hear you ask. It is quite simple really.
Nuts are a good source of protein and fat, and they help to sustain the energy gained from carbohydrates. Because of this, having a slice of toast smothered in peanut butter for breakfast will give you the boost of energy that you need in the morning.
Take our use of the word 'smothered' lightly however. It is said that 2 tablespoons of peanut butter per day is healthy, any more than that and I'm afraid you have gone too far. Those two tablespoons do pack in around 7 grams of protein - not bad eh!
This amount of protein means that you remain feeling full for longer, which is useful if you are the snacking kind.
Why not try this as a snack before a run and see if you notice a difference in your energy levels.
